The Pioneers Hut

Clementine, Jan 2022

"We had a lovely stay, this place is very special, lovingly restored and a unique experience. The bed was so comfortable it was hard to leave it in the morning! the location is truly stunning, surrounded by mountains and birdsong and two tiny ponies who were very friendly. Would love to come back in winter to make use of the fire :)"

"Couldn’t be more grateful that Rob and Helen share their little piece of magic. You feel like you’re driving to the footsteps of heaven as you approach. Just a quick drive to so many amazing parts of the country. Humble little hut with all the mod cons you could ask for that makes you feel like you’re part of the adventures of 100 years ago. Great way to take a breath. Communication from hosts was great."

Malisa, Jan 2022

"Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Friendly owners Beautiful gardens And such a clean house, everything you need for your little get away. Loved the visits from the owners dogs and cats, felt like home away from home Will definitely come back"

Jo, Jan 2022

Amazing spot in the world to spend some quiet time relaxing and catching your breath. Gorgeous surrounds and just loved being greeted by your friendly, furry family in the morning. Will definitely be returning... with friends!

Trish and David, December 2021

This is a beautiful place and Rob and Helen genuinely welcoming and very friendly. We loved the pioneer cottage with its authenticity yet sufficient mod cons for our 21 century comfort. It was delightfully intimate and cosy. It is close to town and all the local attractions yet wonderfully secluded and serene. We would happily return and spend more time there and will be recommending it anyone travelling to the high country. Trish and David

"WOW WOW WOW one of the most amazing places we have stayed! The pioneer hut is just delightful, super cosy and everything you need for a great long wkd away. We had to pinch ourselves on how beautiful this place really is! The outdoor fire is amazing to sit around on a chilly afternoon/night its specially designed so smoke does not blow in your face. The miniature horses are so friendly, the cows are a delight. So peacefully quite while birds are singing in the background. You would be crazy not to book this place. Thank you for a wonderful stay."

Catherine, 21/11/2020

"The pioneer hut is absolutely charming. We were expecting it to be lovely but couldn't stop saying to each other what a wonderful job Rob had done with restoring it. The property is a wonderful atmosphere to get away from the city in. We saw some wildlife on a walk down the road. It is nice and quiet, away from any major roads. Loved having a few horses and cattle around. Rob had great advise about local things to do, as well as grway stories about the history of the property. We're looking forward to going back!"

Alex, June 2020

"Rob's place is an excellent weekend away with the wife. Magic spot for a bottle or 2 of red by the fire. Close to great walks and beautiful scenery all around."

Emily, March 2020

"What a stylish and cozy cottage surrounded by amazing views of the beautiful Victorian high country! We loved the fire place inside the old charming hut (especially the crackling sound of fire at night) and the views of the garden that surrounds the entire place. The outdoor BBQ worked really well - we had an awesome time cooking and eating our own meal while enjoying the sunset. Rob's two border collie doggies were way too cute/friendly and we looked forward to their visits everyday. Rob is a great host who made us feel comfortable from the very first moment we met him. The hut is close to many scenic spots such as Lake Eildon, Mt Buller and the Victorian rail trail. We highly recommend this place to couples who are looking for a quiet and romantic getaway!"

Mike, May 2020

"If you're looking for a place to get out of the hustle and bustle this the spot. Get the fire on and unwind in this historic cabin."

Giovanna, May 2020

"Rob was an amazing host. Happy to have a chat but also leave us to do our own thing. Was the perfect stop on our drive from Sydney to Melbourne and provided a great place for some R&R. Outdoor fireplace was such a winner and the cabin had everything we needed. Could whip into town for the essentials. Thanks for a great stay."

Sharon, 4/6/2020

"We have had a wonderful stay here! Rob is an exceptional host and we felt at home immediately. We loved meeting and feeding bread, carrots, apples and pears to the three resident cows - they are nameless so we have called them Geraldine, Gloria and Gigi. Rob’s dogs also popped over for a visit. They are beautiful and entertaining! We have enjoyed so many walks around here and, as restrictions have lifted with COVID, we have also done some hiking and 4WD - the trails and tracks are all easily accessible from here. We will definitely be back to visit again!!!"

Rachel, 11/6/2018

"The property is very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the wide open spaces. I loved sitting outside in front of the outdoor fire. The hut is cosy and warm. The wood fire stove kept us very warm but there are extra heaters if you need them. We had everything we needed. Rob and Helen supplied us with some staples for our breakfast. Lovely fresh eggs, juice bread and some spreads. We did most of our coming on the barbecue outside. We slept very well. The bed was very comfortable and all the fresh air gave us a good night sleep. The hut is very clean and well presented. I love that it is just one room. It makes the experience all the more cosy and restful. Just be aware that your puppies are welcome but they must remain outside. We will definitely be back."

Justin, 24/4/2019

"Rob was very welcoming and made it clear that he was available if needed. The cottage was really close to the main house but we had absolute privacy and hardly knew anyone else was about. The restored cottage was beautifully done with charming derail. We loved our time there."

Andrew, England, United Kingdom

"A lovely, secluded, character-full cabin, kitted out with all mod cons. Excellent canine welcoming committee. Great location for various activities, and close enough to the surprisingly buzzy town of Mansfield for a nice meal, a coffee and cake, or a craft beer."

Pin Oak Chapel

Peter, January 2022

My family and I stayed at Pin Oak Chapel for a few days, and it was a wonderful getaway. The venue was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely aesthetic, and the broader property was fun to roam. Would definitely recommend!

Jason, October 2021

AWESOME! just AWESOME! perfect location close to Mansfield and only and only minutes away from the zoo. It is so peaceful with the feeling of being secluded with great views of the hills. Everything you need is provided and such nice hosts. I highly recommend this place.

Ita Andehui, August 2021

Amazing place, the refurbishment of the chapel is absolutely gorgeous. The outdoor areas is big, perfect for kids to run around. It’s only like 40min drive to My Buller, in a quiet spot from all the buzz from the tourist. The communication with Rob (host) was very clear and super fast. I totally recommend the place!!

Lincoln, March 2021

This place was oustanding! From the minute we got out of the car we felt entirely relaxed and removed from the busyness of Melbourne. We loved the greeting by the dogs, and the pin oak chapel was excellent. Our kids had a truly amazing time here riding bikes, playing croquet, playing with the dogs and catching a few red fin up on the dam. If you want to escape to the country, this place is the best! Also very close to the lovely town of Mansfield where we rode the rail trail and the local downhill mountain bike trails. Well done to Rob and Helen for making us feel welcome! We'll be back for sure.

"Picture perfect residence. So many lovely touches. The location of the property is off the beaten track and definitely brings peace and quiet. We had some very hot days at Robs and were fortunate to swim in the fresh water river only a 4 min drive. Kids loved it. Such a lovely escape from the city and we will be back again. Thanks Rob!"

"Peace and quiet......and close to Mount Buller. Our family had a lovely long weekend enjoying the tranquility of the Chapel residence interspersed with trips to the snow at nearby Mt Buller, excellent cafes in Mansfield and the Delatite winery. The house is well-equipped and can provide beds for lots of people. There were 5 of us plus a 13 month-old toddler who loved the outdoor space. The open fire was very welcome in the cold but I think this would be a great place for a country stay at any time of the year"

Michelle, 11/6/2019

"Stayed here for the weekend and the kids absolutely loved it. Resident cows, dogs and cat all made us feel welcome. Our 7 year old even caught his first fish in the lake on property. The trampoline was fun for our 4 year old and the fire pit was the perfect spot for cooking our marshmallows. Owners Robert and Helen were lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. A Great break from city life. We’ll be back!"

"Beauty and Serenity is right, picturesque farm setting with mod cons and a fresh layout! The hospitality from Rob was second to none and he'll even give you tips on pulling reds out of the Dam! We absolutely loved being surrounded by the animals, and the gorgeous setting and slept like babies after the adventures near by! We'll be back! James and Kiara"
